Website Updates Important

Fresh material added regularly to your site keeps visitors coming back to see what's new. Some sites are constantly updated by the natural activity of the business, such as news, real estate, classified ads or online catalogs. However every site should routinely feature creative new content, text, graphics or images, to build the traffic of repeat visitors.

Conscientious Updates

Updating your status with a general statement may seem harmless to you, but others may read it in a different light. Remember when you post you have hundreds of friends and acquaintances in Facebook from all kinds of backgrounds, with different jobs, beliefs, personalities, etc. The simplest, honest comment could be offensive to some of your Facebook friends without you realizing it.

It's impossible to consider every one of your friends when updating/commenting publicly but you must mindful of their interpretation of your statement or you may loss them as a friend.

Posting on Walls is not Private

As much as you may think everyone wants to know your most intimate secrets, others may not share the same inclination. Family and friends might not take it too kindly when you post what they did last night at your house party, or any other stuff which are understood to be kept between your closest friends.

The fact is that most of their Facebook friends will hear about it in such a public platform. The walls indeed have ears, especially so for the Facebook Wall. Best to keep these conversations behind closed doors in Facebook Messaging.

Be Personal with Personal News

For many of you this will seem to be simple common sense but recently I had to remind someone of this important social manner.  If you need to inform your friends or your family about some important or personal news (e.g. death in the family), don’t declare it out in the public domain. This is especially important when this news may be confrontational or my upset the receiving party. Airing personal business on a public, social network is not appreciated by friends and may turn others against you too as they how you conduct yourself.

Personal or confrontational news should be delivered face to face or at the very least via the phone live with the person. Do not use Facebook, Buzz, Twitter, email, phone SMS text messages or voice mail for these important and delicate matters.

Beyond the Basic Flat Content

With social media, websites can add context and entertainment value to otherwise flat pieces of writing. Beyond text and images, stories may be enhanced with polls, videos, games, real-time chats, answers to tangential questions and all without having to do any real programing or complicated tech work.  Facebook & Twitter provide all of the tools needed and it only requires some mediation and monitoring.

Engage your customers rather than hope they read and relate to your message.

Facebook Images

Now with photos across the top of the new Facebook profiles you should ensure they are appropriate and not something someone  has tagged you in.  Yes anyone could tag you in a photograph, and it may show up at the top of your page. Of course you can “X” them out, if and/or when you notice them (hopefully before damage is done to your image).  New now is the ability for you to remove your name from photos when tagged by others. This feature of images across your header,  uses images based from your posts to your own Page wall as well as images where you have tagged your Page.  Also new on Pages, fans cannot tag or post an image and have it show up at the top.

Best Practice: Control your profile appearance and upload several key images to your Page’s photo area and remember to keep it pruned in order to present a cohesive and clear visual message.
